Called to the Bar in 1994, Karen Maki brings to our legal team a wide range of litigation experience and has appeared many times before the BC Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal. Karen practices in the areas of commercial and estate litigation.
Karen has represented clients in complex commercial litigation files involving shareholder disputes, real estate disputes, foreclosures, easements, breaches of contracts and loans/guarantees. Karen has also been counsel on estate litigation files involving capacity and undue influence, validity of marriages and division of estate funds.
Karen is a member of the Canadian Bar Association – Judicial Issues Subcommittee, working on policy issues relating to judicial appointments, compensation, discipline and independence.
Prior to being appointed to the Judicial Issues Subcommittee, Karen was a member of the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch, Judicial Advisory and Court Services Committees.
In her leisure time, Karen diligently practices the art of dressage with her warmblood horse, Kayla, looks after her many cats, and kickboxes. She also enjoys adventure travel and has been riding in Iceland and Patagonia, hiked the Inca Trail and in June 2019, summited Kilimanjaro (Machame route).
