Called to the Bar in 1994, Karen Maki brings to our legal team a wide range of litigation experience and has appeared many times before the BC Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal. Karen practices in the areas of commercial, estate and personal injury (ICBC) litigation.
Karen has represented clients in complex commercial litigation files involving shareholder disputes, real estate disputes, foreclosures, easements, breaches of contracts and loans/guarantees. Karen has also been counsel on estate litigation files involving capacity and undue influence, validity of marriages and division of estate funds. She has represented clients on personal injury files involving significant damages for pain and suffering, wage loss and loss of earning capacity.
Karen is a member of the Canadian Bar Association – Judicial Issues Subcommittee, working on policy issues relating to judicial appointments, compensation, discipline and independence.
Prior to being appointed to the Judicial Issues Subcommittee, Karen was a member of the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch, Judicial Advisory and Court Services Committees.
In her leisure time, Karen diligently practices the art of dressage with her warmblood horse, Kayla, and looks after her many cats. She also enjoys travelling and has been riding in Iceland and Patagonia and hiking in Peru.
