SANJEETA JOHAL

Sanjeeta was called to the Bar in 2006, after obtaining her J.D. from the University of British Columbia in 2005 and her B.A. from Simon Fraser University in 2002.  While in law school at UBC, Sanjeeta was the recipient of several academic awards and accolades, including an entrance scholarship.

After her call to the Bar in 2006, Sanjeeta practiced law at a boutique litigation firm in Vancouver before joining one of the largest litigation firms in Western Canada, where she practiced for 12 years.  She joined Buckley Hogan as our senior litigator in 2021 and manages our busy litigation department.

Sanjeeta is a trial lawyer with a diverse litigation practice.  She assists clients with Supreme Court commercial and business litigation, real estate, construction, commercial tenancy, and estate matters.  She has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia and has extensive experience with pre-trial negotiation and mediation.  Recent cases include:

  • Panesar v. Sidhu, 2022 BCCA 397
  • Azam v Andrews Custom Furniture Designs Inc., 2022 BCSC 1166

In addition to practicing law, Sanjeeta is actively engaged in mentoring the next generation of lawyers.  She has been a past judge for the mock civil trial component of the Professional Legal Training Course and a judge for the UBC First Year Moots, as well as a past mentor for the Women’s Legal Forum of the Canadian Bar Association (BC Branch).

She has also presented a workshop on litigation skills for upper year law students at Thomson Rivers University Law School.  In addition, Sanjeeta has presented at professional development seminars for the insurance industry in both Calgary and Vancouver (with 100+ attendees) and has been an invited speaker on a local radio show to discuss litigation-related topics.

Sanjeeta is a member of the Canadian Bar Association (BC Branch), the South Asian Bar Association of BC, and the Surrey Bar Association.
